The primary principle behind laser hair removal is Selective Photothermolysis (SPTL), a precise microsurgery technique, the matching of a specific wavelength of light and pulse duration to obtain optimal effect on a targeted tissue with minimal effect on surrounding tissue.
Preparing for laser hair removal?
Prior to starting any treatment, a full and free consultation takes place to ensure that there are no contra-indications to prevent the commencement of treatment, this includes, pregnancy, nursing or diabetic.
Other general preparations include –
Avoid other hair removal methods such as plucking, waxing and electrolysis which can disturb the hair follicle, it should be avoided at least 4 weeks before treatment.
Avoid unnecessary sun exposure, self-tanning products on areas to be treated, 1 month before and after treatment.
Do not apply Retinol or Retinoic acid-containing creams/lotions, peeling agents or diamond peel 1 week before your treatment.
Avoid any activities prior to coming in for treatment that will make you hot and sweaty, such as exercising, swimming or going to spas and saunas.
People with keloid scars, cold sores, moles tattoos, healing problems, active infections, open lesions, or permanent makeup in that area cannot undergo laser hair removal.
Laser treatments do not “melt” fillers or botox so they can be injected 2 weeks before laser or at least 2 weeks after the laser treatment once the skin has healed.

An annual top up session is recommended for maintenance.

What are laser hair removal stages of hair growth?
All face and body hair goes through 3 distinct phases of growth: Anagen, Catagen & Telogen.
The Anagen (active) phase is most effective for laser hair reduction results because this is when the hair is still attached to the blood supply and is fully pigmented. ‘Inactive’ hair follicles like, Telogen (transition) and Catagen (resting) can be treated as they become ‘active’ over time throughout the treatment sessions.
